CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The 2022 edition of Rally in the Valley posted another strong year of fundraising for UNI student-athlete scholarships, with $217,200 raised during the April 24 event at the McLeod Center.
Â
Returning to an in-person event for the first time since 2019, the $217,200 raised is the third highest total recorded since Rally in the Valley began in 2008.
Â
"I am thankful to our community and supporters for their contributions toward our student-athletes," said Nathaniel Smith, director of athletics annual giving and tickets. "To be able to raise what we did after the two-year hiatus says a lot about the passion and commitment our patrons have for their student-athletes."
Â
Attendees of this year's event were able to participate in a silent auction at the start of the evening, followed by dinner served by UNI's student-athletes. The evening concluded with a live auction, streamlined by usage of the Handbid app, which also allowed individuals not in attendance to take part in bidding.
Â
$78,300 was raising during the silent auction, the highest total since 2015. The live auction saw $80,400 raised for Panther athletics.
Â
As part of the program, host Eric Braley interviewed former Panther football player, 1982 UNI graduate and current NFL official Fred Bryan, who served as the umpire for Super Bowl LIII.
Â
"As always, the Panther Family steps up to support our student-athletes," said UNI Director of Athletics David Harris. "Scholarships provide the opportunities that our sport programs need for championship level competition. We are grateful to so many for their amazing generosity and support."
Â
Among the top bidding items was a set of Super Bowl tickets for $12,000, and tickets and VIP access to the Waste Management Phoenix Open for $10,500.
Â
The money raised at the Rally in the Valley goes toward student-athlete scholarships.
