UNI softball vs. Loyola
The Panthers are coming into the weekend series off a big win against in-state opponent Iowa State. UNI was able to run rule the Cyclones in five innings led by center fielder Madison Parks with three runs, three hits, three RBIs, and two home runs. The Panthers will look to keep their win streak going against the Ramblers, who are coming off a Monday win against Evansville. Saturday's doubleheader has been moved back to a 1:30 p.m. start time for field prep and warmer temperatures.
THE PANTHERS:
-Â The Panthers were able to win a big game against Iowa State on Wednesday afternoon. UNI run-ruled the Cyclones with a 12-4 win after 5 innings and were able to avenge their loss at the UNI Dome tournament earlier this season.
- Wednesday's game was UNI's third win in run shortened game. The Panthers other two run-rule wins came against Chattanooga on March 11 and against Evansville on March 26.
- Sophomore catcher Emmy Wells now leads the Missouri Valley Conference in home runs after hitting two moonshots to center on Wednesday afternoon. Wells has 10 home runs on the season and set a career high on Wednesday with 5 RBIs against the Cyclones.
- Two Panthers had multiple home runs in Wednesday's game. Wells and center fielder Madison Parks had two home runs each against Iowa State. UNI has not had more than one player score multiple home runs in a game over the past eight seasons.Â
THE RAMBLERS:
- Loyola finished an unusual series against Evansville earlier this week. Due to inclement weather over the weekend in the Chicago area, the Ramblers pushed their three game series with the Aces back to a Sunday doubleheader and a single game on Monday.Â
- The Ramblers dropped their doubleheader on Sunday to Evansville but were able to grab a walkoff win in the final game of the series on Monday.Â
- Loyola has excelled in a specific batting area through the season so far. The Ramblers average 0.26 triples per game to lead the MVC and are 41st in the nation.
- The Ramblers are led by catcher Abbey Jacobsen and first baseman Amelia Thomas behind the plate. The two Ramblers have a .250 batting average while Thomas has a slugging percentage of .438.
