Packard named MVC Pitcher of the Week

ST LOUIS -- For the fourth week this season, a UNI softball player has been recognized for their performance on the field.Â
Redshirt-junior pitcher Kailyn Packard was recognized by Missouri Valley coaches and SID's for her work in the circle against Missouri State this weekend. Packard was named the Valley's Pitcher of the Week for her start against Missouri State on Sunday afternoon in the Panthers only game of the week.Â
Packard pitched a complete game on Sunday against the Bears in a pitchers duel with Steffany Dickerson. Through eight inning of work Packard threw 12 strikeouts, allowed just 5 hits and gave up no runs for her fourth shutout of the season. With 12 strikeouts on Sunday, Packard again tied her career-high for strikeouts in a game. She last reached 12 strikeouts in a game against Evansville on March 27.
This is the second time Packard has been named Pitcher of the Week by the MVC. Her first nomination came during the 2021 season after two dominating starts against Illinois State. Packard was also been named the MVC's Newcomer of the Week twice in 2021. This is her first honor for the 2022 season.Â
