Wells earns second MVC Player of the Week honors

ST LOUIS -- UNI softball has earned another weekly honor from the Missouri Valley Conference.
Sophomore catcher Emmy Wells was named the MVC Player of the Week as voted on by league coaches and SIDs, announced Tuesday afternoon. This is Wells second Player of the Week honors after another strong week both at and behind the plate.
Wells shined on offense for the Panthers, as she took sole possession of the Missouri Valley's two slugging categories with huge performances against Drake and Illinois State. Over the week, Wells hit 3 home runs, had 5 hits, and brought home 12 other runs. Wells took possession of the MVC's home run category with her three home runs over the week.
Two of those home runs were grand slams, including a grand slam in the fifth inning of Saturday's game against Illinois State to secure a walkoff win for the Panthers. Overall Wells slashed .417/.500/.1.250, taking over first place for slugging percentage in the Valley. Wells also dominated in the field with 53 putouts and 3 assists for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
This is the sixth week in a row the Panthers have had someone named to the Valley's weekly honors.
