
UNI track and field: Darius King named MVC Field Athlete of the Week

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - UNI track and field's Darius King earned the Missouri Valley Field Athlete of the Week honors for a throw that puts him in the nation's top 10.Â
King opened his outdoor shot put season with a throw that ranks ninth nationally among the current marks.Â
It tops the Missouri Valley Conference and is just shy of his career best for outdoor (20.14 meters). He threw 19.68 meters to take first place at Drake's Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa.
King is coming off his third NCAA championship appearance. He earned second team all-America honors at the NCAA Division I Indoor National Track and Field Championships with a 10th-place finish with a throw of 19.58 meters.
King finished seventh in the 2021 NCAA outdoor championships with a toss of 19.69 meters.Â
He was 12th at the 2021 NCAA indoor championships. He was then invited to participate in the 2020 Olympic Trials, finishing 12th with a toss of 18.43 meters.Â
Darius King is a graduate student from Moline, Illinois. He is the son of Reginald and Beverly King. He is majoring in computer science and technology management with a minor in data science.Â

Adam Fogg broke his own outdoor 1500-meter run school and MVC record on Friday (April 15) at the Bryan Clay Invitational by recording a time of 3:38.15. He finished 15th out of 145 competitors.

Loyola senior Kathleen Simms moved into the top 30 nationally in the 10,000m run last Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Out of Louisville, Ky., Simms took nearly 30 seconds off her personal best, coming through in 33:43.12, the second fastest time in program history, to place sixth overall in the invitational section of the event. The senior's time, which leads The Valley, has her 16th on the NCAA West Region leaderboard and ranks 26th overall on the NCAA Division I national chart.Â

Ryann Porter, Jumps/Hurdles, So., Indiana State [Janesville, Wis.]Â
Porter extended her conference-leading mark in the triple jump at last weekend's War Eagle Invitational, earning a second-place finish at the meet. All three jumps that Porter landed were greater than 12 meters, with her top mark of 12.66m (41-06.50) on her fifth attempt of the day being a season best. Porter owns the top mark in the Valley by more than 0.6 meters, with her mark also ranking inside the top 25 in NCAA East region qualifying. In addition, Porter also had a season-best in the long jump at 5.46m (17-11.00) and ran a time of 14.47 in the 100m hurdles, with both marks ranking inside the top 10 in the Valley.Â
