Mya Dodge named MVC Newcomer of the Week

ST. LOUIS -- Freshman outfielder Mya Dodge has been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference for her play at Lipscomb and the Governors Classic.
The MVC league office announced on Tuesday that Dodge was one of three players recognized for their play on the field over the past week. Dodge was named the league's fourth Newcomer of the Week in the 2022 season.
Over the past week Dodge had another fantastic time at the plate for the Panthers as their designated player, batting .444 in five games. For the first time since Sammey Bunch in 2021, Dodge hit four home runs in four straight games at the Governors Classic tournament hosted by Austin Peay over the weekend.
In 18 at bats, Dodge knocked 8 hits, scored 7 runs and brought in 5 RBIs over contests against Lipscomb, Bellarmine, and Austin Peay. Dodge had a whopping 1.167 slugging percentage on the week, leading UNI batters and is nationally ranked in four categories for her hitting. Dodge also excelled on base as she had a .450 on base percentage and stole two bases through five games of play.
Currently, Dodge leads the MVC in home runs with five on the season and home runs per game averaging 0.36. She also is in the topfive in the league in slugging percentage and triples per game.
