ST. LOUIS -- Four Panthers have been recognized for their skills both on the court and in the classroom by the Missouri Valley Conference.
For the second year in a row, senior guard Karli Rucker has been named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team. The UNI women's basketball team had three other players recognized for Scholar-Athlete accolades. Guard Nicole Kroeger, Kam Finley, and center Cynthia Wolf received honorable mentions from the conference for their academics and play.
Rucker has now been named to a Scholar-Athlete team every year she has been eligible. She has been named to the first team twice in this year and last year while also being named to the second team twice as a sophomore and junior. Rucker is majoring in Elementary Education with a 3.58 GPA.Â
This is the first time Kroeger, Finley, and Wolf have all been recognized for the Scholar-Athlete Teams. Kroeger is a community health and recreation graduate studente with a 3.67 GPA. Finley is a family services major with an emphasis in mental health and has a 3.38 GPA. Wolf leads the team in GPA at 3.85 and she is majoring in biology.Â
The criteria for the scholar-athlete team balloting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for the Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, have played at least 75-percent of a team's games, and must carry at least a 3.30 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Student-athletes must also have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.
