CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- UNI soccer has announced the hiring of two coaches for the upcoming spring 2022 season.
On Tuesday, March 22 UNI soccer made the hiring of two new assistant coaches official. Former volunteer goalies coach Jami Reichenberger has been promoted to a full-time assistant while Kyle Nelson has been added to the staff from the Cedar Valley Soccer Club in nearby Waterloo.
Jami Reichenberger | Assistant Coach
Reichenberger has been working with UNI soccer as a volunteer coach since 2019 following her playing career with the Panthers. Over the past three seasons Reichenberger has worked with UNI's goalies to strengthen one of the main defensive units of the team. Reichenberger was also the Panthers starting goalie from 2017 and 2018 where she set the program season record for most shutouts in both seasons.
"I am excited to see Jami move to the Full Time assistant position," says Head Coach Bruce Erickson. "She was a great player for us and has grown significantly in the past 3 years as a Volunteer Coach. She epitomizes what it means to be a part of the Panther Soccer program and is an incredibly hard worker." Moving into a full-time role, Reichenberger will continue to work with UNI's goalkeepers and have a focus on the defensive side of the game.
Kyle Nelson | Assistant Coach
Nelson joins UNI soccer after three and a half years with the Cedar Valley Soccer Club in Waterloo. While with the Cedar Valley Soccer Club, Nelson served as the groups Director of Coaching until being promoted to Executive Director in July 2021. Nelson's extensive coaching experience includes time with Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, Johnston Urbandale Soccer Club, Sporting Iowa Soccer Academy, Wartburg College, Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Association, Luther College, and Decorah High School.
"Kyle is a great addition to our staff," says Head Coach Bruce Erickson. "I have worked with him in club and he's got great experience in the state of Iowa at the club and college level. I am excited to have him as part of this staff to go along with Jami and Chris Kowalski!" Nelson will work with the Panthers on the attacking side of the ball among other responsibilities.
