UNI women's soccer rounds out 2022 class with three recruits

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Three more players have signed with UNI women's soccer for the upcoming 2022 fall season.
The three latest editions to the UNI soccer program include two freshman and a transfer student from Grand Canyon University. Panther soccer will see Macy Smith, Sydney Burskey, and Jaylie Hicklin suit up in purple and gold this upcoming fall. Smith is a local product while Burskey and Hicklin come from Colorado and Kansas respectively.
Macy Smith | Forward | Waverly-Shell Rock HS | Waverly, IA
Smith is a local player from Bremer County just 20 minutes away from UNI's campus. Smith is a forward for Waverly-Shell Rock high school and her club team, Sporting Iowa ECNL with Head Coach Daryl Brazeau. While at Waverly-Shell Rock, Smith was apart of the 2021 2A State Championship team and was named 2nd Team All-State and to the All-Tournament Team. Head Coach Bruce Erickson, "We are excited to add Macy to our 2022 class. Her best soccer days are ahead as she has a ton of potential and has been a winner in everything she's done. Toughness is one of her many qualities!" Smith also plays basketball and is a wrestler for Waverly Shell-Rock.
Sydney Burskey | Forward/Midfield | Legend High School | Parker, CO
Burskey is an attack-minded player who can switch from forward to midfielder where needed. During her time at Legend High School in Parker, Burskey excelled both on the field and in the classroom as she was named to both the honor role and the principle honor roll. Burksey plays club soccer with Colorado Pride ECNL under the direction of Coach AJ Adcock. As a member of Colorado Pride, Burskey was part of a team that won several weekend tournaments. "Sydney is an attacking player who can help us immediately," says Head Coach Bruce Erickson. "She can play up front or as an attacking midfielder with great ability to take players on and/or use her pace."
Jaylie Hicklin | Midfield | Grand Canyon University | Stilwell, KS
Hicklin is a transfer midfielder who spent the fall 2021 season at Grand Canyon University in Arizona. A native of Kansas, Hicklin also played club soccer with Sporting Blue Valley ECNL, coached by Tom Knox. While at Grand Canyon, Hicklin appeared in seven games for the Lopes with one assist and one shot attempt. During her time at Blue Valley Southwest High School, Hicklin was named All-State Midfielder of the Year in 2021 along with All-Eastern Kansas League Midfielder of the Year. She was also named First Team All-State and First Team All-EKL in 2021. Hicklin also helped lead BVSW to a 5A State Championship in 2018 and a Kansas State Cup Championship with club Sporting Blue Valley in 2020. "Jaylie transferred in for spring semester and has made an impact on our team already," said Head Coach Bruce Erickson. "She gives us another quality central midfielder and makes us better."
Panther soccer will have a short spring season throughout the month of April. UNI will have five spring games both at home and on the road at North Dakota State. The first game will be on Friday, April 1 against Missouri Western.
