UNI women's basketball vs. Drake
After starting the WNIT postseason tournament with a statement win, the Panthers will go into the second round against a fellow Missouri Valley team. UNI will play the Drake Bulldogs for the third time this season on Monday night at the Knapp Center. The Bulldogs swept the regular conference series from UNI, winning games in both Des Moines and Drake. The Panthers will look to avenge the losses in post-season play.
THE PANTHERS:
- The Panthers roared to an opening round win in the WNIT tournament against Kansas City on Thursday evening. UNI had an all around performance to grab the 75-58 win over the Roos.
- Seniors Karli Rucker, Bre Gunnels, and Nicole Kroeger won their 50th game in the McLeod Center on Thursday when UNI hosted Kansas City in the WNIT first round this week.
- UNI will hope to grab their first win at the Knapp Center since 2016 in their WNIT second round matchup with Drake. The Bulldogs took both regular season contests against the Panthers with a 65-57 win in Des Moines and a 73-68 win in Cedar Falls.
- The last time the Panthers met Drake in the WNIT tournament, UNI would grab the win in Cedar Falls 64-58 after sweeping the regular season series.Â
THE BULLDOGS:
-Â Drake topped SEC opponent Mizzou, 83-78, on Thursday to advance to the second round of the WNITÂ in an overtime thriller. It was only the Bulldogs second game to go to overtime all season.
- The Bulldogs likely had some scouting help on Thursday from redshirt-junior forward and Mizzou transfer Grace Berg. Berg was named the MVC Newcomer of the Year in 2021 and helped Drake with a win over her former team with four points and four rebounds.
-Â Monday's game will mark graduate guard Maddie Petersen's 150th career start in a Drake uniform. She is the only Bulldog in history to record that many career starts.
- This is Drake's 10th appearance in the WNIT postseason tournament. The Bulldogs have a 9-10 record in the tournament with their furthest run coming in 2021 going to the semifinals of the Rockford Regional.Â
