Panther student-athletes record department records for Federal Graduation and Graduation Success rate in 2021-22.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI student-athletes set new records in single-year Federal Graduation Rate and Graduation Success Rate during the 2021-22 academic year with the release of the department's latest academic reports.
Federal Graduation Rates (FGR) are calculated based on a comparison of the number of students to enter a college or university in a given academic year and the number of those who graduated within six years of initial enrollment.
UNI student-athletes recorded a single-year FGR of 83% during the 2021-22 academic year, posting a third consecutive year of improvement and outperforming the university's student body mark of 69%. As laid out in Panthers Rising, UNI Athletics' strategic plan for success, it is an annual goal for Panther student-athletes to post a higher FGR than the general student body. Additionally, UNI student-athletes have outperformed the student body rate in six of the previous eight years.
Panther athletes also made history by posting a record Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 91%, which is calculated based on student-athletes who receive athletic financial aid. UNI's GSR among Panther athletes has improved each of the last three years, surpassing the 90% threshold for the first time in department history, and tying a department record with a single-year improvement of 3%.
"Being a Division I student-athlete takes a great deal of commitment in all aspects of life," said Stacia Eggers, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Service and Senior Woman Administrator. "These graduation rates demonstrate UNI student-athletes' academic commitment. We are proud of what these students accomplish throughout their college careers and especially proud when we watch them walk across the stage!"Â
