
UNI swim & dive opens season with home dual against Hawkeyes

Finke claims victory in 200-yard backstroke with fourth fastest time in school history
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ---Â UNI swimming and diving opened the 2022-23 regular season late Friday afternoon hosting the Iowa Hawkeyes. In the first meeting between the Panthers and Hawkeyes in Cedar Falls since February 2012, Iowa emerged victorious in a 197-103 win.
Helena Heuberger, Scout Bergwall, Sydney Aird, and Faith Larsen opened the night by taking 2nd place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.29. Hallory Domnick and Amber Finke also racked up a pair of 2nd place finishes with Domnick taking 2nd in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.08, while Finke notched a 56.65 in the 100-yard backstroke.
Faith Larson claimed 2nd place in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle, swimming a 23.71 in the 50, followed by a 53.04 in the 100.
Finke put the Panthers in the win column with a time of 2:01.84 in the 200-yard backstroke, with a time faster than any of her in-season times a year ago.
Bergwall went on to place second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.17, while Ema Lavigne finished as runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.27.
On the springboards, reigning MVC Diver of the Year Taylor Hogan led UNI to a 4th place finish with a score of 246.30 on the one-meter springboard. Hogan also led the Panthers in the three-meter competition, scoring 268.58 to take 3rd place.
