UNI to face off against UIC, Illinois State, Indiana State in Windy City in first road event
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI swim and dive continues full steam ahead with their fall schedule in Chicago this weekend at the MVC Showcase, hosted by UIC at the Flames Natatorium this Friday and Saturday
The Panthers jump started their regular season on Oct. 7 hosting the Iowa Hawkeyes in a home dual which saw Iowa emerge victorious by a score of 197-103. Amber Finke put UNI in the win column with a time of 2:01.84 in the 200-yard backstroke.Â
Faith Larson claimed 2nd place in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle against Iowa, swimming a 23.71 in the 50, followed by a 53.04 in the 100.
Reigning MVC Diver of the year Taylor Hogan led UNI to a 4th place finish in the one-meter dive with a score of 246.30. Hogan also gave Panthers a 3rd place slot in the three-meter dive scoring 268.58.
Sophomore Olivia Chambers is slated to compete in her first meet of the season with UNI after competing with the U.S. Paralympic Swimming National Team in the Citi Para Swimming World Series Mexico event in Tijuana. Chambers, who is classified as legally blind under World Para Swimming's disability classifications, took home a pair of medals after competing in three events at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento pool, including a silver medal in the 400-meter freestyle and a bronze medal in the 100-meter butterfly.
UNI will face off against half of the MVC field in Chicago, with competition from Illinois State, Indiana State and host UIC. The Redbirds and Sycamores finished second and third respectively at last year's MVC Championships in Iowa City.
