UNI welcomes Hawkeyes to Cedar Falls for the first time in 10 years in first meet of the year
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI swimming and diving opens the regular season this Friday, October 7 at 5 p.m. at the Glen F. Henry pool inside the Wellness-Recreation Center.
The Panthers will be hosting Iowa, coming off their first dual meet win over the Hawkeyes in program history last season. This will mark the first time the Hawkeyes have visited Cedar Falls since February 2012.
UNI went 11-4 in dual meet competition last season. Head coach Nick Lakin holds a career dual meet record of 35-19-1 entering his 6th season at the helm of the program.
Last weekend, UNI hosted their first meet of the season, the annual Purple and Gold Intrasquad meet. The competition ended with a 142-142 tie, with the purple team claiming the win in a 100-yard medley relay tiebreak.
Notable performances from the Purple and Gold Intrasquad included Olivia Chambers, who claimed victory for the purple team in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Morgan Meyer gave the gold team its first win of the day in the 200-yard freestyle. Scout Bergwall secured first place in the 100-yard butterfly, as Hallory Dominick won in the 100-yard Freestyle.
Reigning MVC Diver of the Year Taylor Hogan returns to the springboard this Friday, after claiming the MVC crown in the three-meter springboard last February. Hogan's championship score of 286.35 was the second highest score on the three-meter springboard in program history, 0.61 points from breaking Bethany Hovland's (2009-13) school record.
The Hawkeyes have added 15 new swimmers and divers for the 2022-23 season. Among the newcomers is Coralville, Iowa native Scarlet Martin, who swam at the Olympic Trials in 2021. The Hawkeyes are coming off a twelfth place finish at the Big Ten Championships last year.Â
The 2022-23 season marks the 25th season that the Panthers will compete with the Glen F. Henry pool as their home venue. Later this season, UNI will also host Illinois State in a dual meet on Jan. 13-14.
