UNI soccer continues Indiana road swing at Indiana State

UNI soccer vs. Indiana State
UNI soccer continues its trip through Indiana with a game against Indiana State on Sunday afternoon. After a 2-2 tie with Evansville on Thursday evening, the Panthers will try to continue their strong offense on the road. UNI's last meeting with the Sycamores ended in a 3-1 loss for the Panthers in Cedar Falls with UNI scoring early before Indiana State rattled off three goals in 22 minutes.
THE PANTHERS:
-Â UNI soccer picked up their first time of the Missouri Valley Conference season on Thursday evening. The Panthers were poised to add another road win when Evansville scored in the final three minutes to make it a 2-2 tie.
- The Panthers continue to fire on offense with two more goals this week. UNI has the highest scoring offense in the MVC at 1.27 goals a game, usually averaging at least two goals in games where they score.
- Senior midfielder Lizzie Mewes scored her first goal of the season on Thursday. Mewes put the Panthers up 1-0 on Evansville in the 15th minute off a corner kick played by Lauren Heinsch and Caroline Hazen.Â
- Junior forward Lauren Heinsch continues to lead the Panthers offense , adding another goal to her season total on Thursday night. Heinsch now has four goals, eight points, 29 shots, and 12 SOG.Â
THE SYCAMORES:
- Indiana State comes into Sunday's matchup second in the MVC with a conference record of 2-1-1 after a tough non-conference schedule. The Sycamores were picked to finish second in the league in the preseason poll.
- The Sycamores had their three-match unbeaten streak to start MVC play snapped on Thursday. Indiana State dropped a road decision to Murray State in a 3-1 loss where the Racers scored three second-half goals to defeat ISU.
- Indiana State has a balanced offensive attack with seven different players scoring at least one goal. Freshman defender Ella Gorrie leads the team in points with one goal and two assists for four total points.
- Sycamores goalkeepers Maddie Alexander and Tara Hoffman have each seen action in the net this season, with Alexander making 34 saves while Hoffman has made 17 stops.
