9/22/2021 11:30:00 AM | Women's Volleyball
This Weekend's Action:
UNI vs Bradley | Sept. 24 | 6 pm
UNI vs Illinois State | Sept. 25 | 5 pm
Â
The Panthers:
- UNI opens Missouri Valley Conference action with a three-match homestand that begins this week against Bradley and Illinois State. This is the first year that the Panthers will play each of their first three MVC contests at home since 2001.
Â
- The Panthers won their most recent home meeting with the Braves back on October 11, 2019 (3-1). UNI only played Bradley on the road this past season and split a two-match series to wrap up the 2020-21 conference slate.
Â
- UNI and Illinois State last went head to head November 30, 2019 in the MVC Championship title tilt. Last season's series was postponed because the Redbirds had "fewer than the minimum number of eligible, medically available players".
Â
- The Panthers just finished a tough nonconference schedule that included six teams that were receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll (No. 3 Kentucky, No. 18 Washington State, RV USC, RV Creighton, RV Marquette, RV Wright State).
Â
- UNI went 1-2 for a third-place finish at last weekend's Marquette Invitational. Jenna Brandt was named to the all-tournament team.
Â
- The Panthers notched 11 aces in their 3-1 win over UTSA. UNI has reached double digits 15 times within the 25-point rally-scoring era (2008 to present) with eight of those instances coming in the 2021 calendar year.
Â
- UNI currently leads all Missouri Valley Conference volleyball programs with 102 overall blocks this season. Carly Spies, who owns a 35-match blocking streak, ranks second in the Valley for total rejections (47).
Â
- Inga Rotto (104), Kaylissa Arndorfer (70), and Emily Holterhaus (70) are on consecutive match playing streaks to begin their college careers. Also of note, Tayler Alden tallied her 1,000th assist as part of Friday's match versus Wright State.
Â
- UNI returns 13 women that were with the program for the spring season including 2020-21 All-MVC honorees Emily Holterhaus (First Team), Inga Rotto (Second Team), and Tayler Alden (Freshman Team).
- Despite the challenges of the delayed 2020 campaign, the Panthers still qualified for the MVC Championship and made it to the league semifinals. UNI has earned tournament bids and semifinal berths for a league-record 36 seasons in a row.
