
UNI Volleyball Drops Nonconference Finale

MILWAUKEE – The UNI Panther volleyball team lost to the Marquette Golden Eagles, 3-0, Saturday in the final contest of the Marquette Invitational. Marquette won by set scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-15. UNI finished in third place, and Jenna Brandt was named to the all-tournament team.
The Panthers totaled 26 kills on .077 hitting across three sets played against the Golden Eagles which are just outside of the AVCA Top 25. UNI posted three aces compared to three service errors. The Panthers had 31 digs and five blocks.
Olivia Tjernagel, Tayler Alden, Kira Fallert, and Emily Holterhaus each recorded four kills for UNI's top totals. Jenna Brandt led all setters with 13 assists, and she also produced an ace along with Kaylee Donner, who notched a Panther-best seven digs, and Payton Ahrenstorff. Inga Rotto tallied a team-high three blocks.
Set 1: In the most competitive frame of the match, UNI and Marquette traded leads and ended up in 10 different ties. The score was 16-16 when the Golden Eagles rattled off nine of the next 11 points featuring a 5-0 closing run to earn a 25-18 win.
Set 2: UNI forced two early ties during the second stanza including 1-1 after a combined rejection from Kira Fallert and Carly Spies. Marquette went in front for good when it won four consecutive rallies to build a 6-2 lead and later stretched the advantage to double digits en route to a 25-14 decision.
Set 3: The Golden Eagles led from wire to wire within a 25-15 victory that secured a 3-0 sweep for the match and the tournament. UNI fought off the first match point on a double block from Kaylissa Arndorfer and Carly Spies before Marquette converted on its next opportunity.

The Panthers open Missouri Valley Conference play at home next week inside the McLeod Center. UNI hosts the Bradley Braves at 6 pm Friday on Team Poster Night. The Panthers will then face the Illinois State Redbirds at 5 pm Saturday in their annual Gold Game.
