CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – For the 16th time in program history and 11th in Tanya Warren's tenure as head coach, the UNI women's basketball team was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top-25.
The Panther women finished 15th in the nation with a 3.663 cumulative team GPA. UNI was the top Division I school in Iowa and second in the Missouri Valley Conference behind Southern Illinois.
"Our young women never cease to amaze me," Warren said. "I am so proud of how they continue to define what it means to be a student-athlete. For our team to be able to excel academically coupled with our on-court success all in the midst of navigating the day-to-day battle of COVID-19 protocol is remarkable. "
The GPA is the highest of any Panther team that has finished in the top-25, including the 2006-07 team that finished second overall with a 3.642 GPA.
On top of UNI's consistent excellence in the classroom, the Panthers are coming off of the deepest postseason run in program history after advancing to the WNIT Final Four. The UNI women have finished above .500 in MVC Play in each of the last 13 seasons. The Panthers have won 17 or more games and finished in the top half of the league in each of the last 12 consecutive seasons.
The Panthers return the entire roster from last season's team with the exception of former All-MVC Forward Megan Maahs. UNI adds freshmen guards, Anaya Barney and Riley Wright.
