WACO, Texas – UNI senior defensive tackle Jared Brinkman earned his third All-American honor of the week, this time he was named first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. His AFCA nod goes along with his First-Team AP All-American honor and the First-Team STATS Perform All-American honors he received earlier in the week.
Brinkman, the MVFC Defensive Player of the Year and finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, led the MVFC with 9.0 tackles for loss and 1.29 TFLs per game. He finished the season with 38 total tackles. The senior was second in the league with two forced fumbles and tallied three QB hurries and recovered a fumble. He had 4.5 TFLs and a sack against Missouri State and was a leader on the Panther defense that led the league in scoring defense, allowing just 12 touchdowns all season.
Brinkman returns for his senior season in the fall of 2021. The Panthers are slated to open their schedule against Iowa State on Sept. 4, in Ames.
