Kailyn Packard Named MVC Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week

ST. LOUIS – UNI's Kailyn Packard was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week for her play against Southern Illinois over the weekend. This is the second Newcomer of the Week honor and first Pitcher of the week honor for Packard.

Packard had a dominant performance in the circle against the Salukis, going 2-0 with a no hitter and a 0.00 ERA. Packard started in the circle in game two of the series, pitching all 7 innings. The redshirt sophomore faced 26 batters and recorded 9 strikeouts and gave up 0 hits for her first no hitter as a Panther. Packard pitched back to back games, going head to head with SIU's Sarah Harness in game 3 of the series. Packard led the Panthers to a 3-0 victory pitching all 7 innings with 9 strikeouts. Adding 2 wins to her resume Packard finished the MVC regular season 14-2 in the circle.

Packard and rest of the UNI softball team will be back in action on Friday, May 15 at the MVC Championships.
