Panthers Open Outdoor Competition at USD Early Bird Meet

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI track and field team is set to open outdoor competition at the USD Early Bird meet hosted by South Dakota at the Lillibridge Track Complex on Saturday. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men's javelin and women's shot put, while track events are slated to start at 12:30 p.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdles. Tickets will not be available to fans.

2019 Outdoor Season

The Panthers last saw outdoor competition during the 2018-19 season. The men's team secured their second consecutive MVC title with 183.25 points, while the women's team placed fourth with 100.5 points at the MVC Outdoor Championships. UNI tallied six individual titles and 22 all-conference awards on the weekend.

Thirteen Panthers saw competition at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, Calif., May 23-25. Darius King punched his ticket to the championships, posting a toss of 19.32m at the regional, a mere four centimeters shy of the UNI school record of 19.36 held by Justin Baker.

King finished 23rd in the men's shot put with a mark of 16.90m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, hosted by the University of Texas in Austin, TX. on June 5.

Jessica Heims represented Team USA at the Para Athletics Grand Prix in Grosseto, Italy, Parapan America Games in Lima, Peru, and Para Athletics World Championship in Dubai. In Italy, Heims captured gold in the discus (34.18m), 100 meters (14.65), and 200 meters (30.04). Heims broke her own world record of 34.15m in the discus to hit a mark of 34.40m, earning gold in Lima, Peru. Heims also surpassed the field of competition by over 4.5 meters at the Parapan America Games.
