Kiewiet Leads Panthers After First Day of Gibson Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – UNI track and field closed out the first day of competition at the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., with freshman Parker Kiewiet in first in the men's decathlon with 3756 points and senior Erica Loussaert leading the Panthers in the women's heptathlon with 2576 points.
Kiewiet leads the field after clinching first in the 100 meters (10.76) and 400 meters (49.15), second in the high jump (1.93m), and third in the long jump (6.90m) and posted a mark of 9.52m in the shot put to tally 3756 points on the day. Fellow freshman Carter Morton is in third with 3565 points and sophomore Zach Butcher is fourth with 3458 points. Freshman Matt Davis is currently eighth in the standings with 3357 points. The decathlon will resume at 10 a.m. ET on Friday with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500 meters.
In the women's heptathlon, Loussaert finished third in the shot put with a toss of 11.34m, recorded a mark of 1.49m in the high jump, and clocked times of 16.21 in the 100-meter hurdles and 27.65 in the 200 meters to close out the day 13th in the rankings with 2576 points. Freshman Lydia Berns-Schweingruber currently has 2092 points. The heptathlon will resume at 10:30 a.m. ET on Friday with the long jump, javelin, and 800 meters.
Along with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon, Friday's action will see field events beginning at 3 p.m. ET with the men's hammer throw and women's javelin throw. Track events are slated to begin at 5 p.m. ET with the men's 200 meters. Saturday's track events will begin at 11 a.m. ET with the women's 100-meter trials and field events will start at 11:30 a.m. ET with the men's and women's long jump.
