King Lands Spot at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – UNI shot-putter Darius King will compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in Fayetteville, Ark. after finishing ninth in the NCAA rankings. The top 16 athletes in each event advance to the NCAA Championships. The men's shot put is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on Friday, March 12.
King cliched gold and earned all-conference honors in the men's shot put with a toss of 19.77m at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend. King's toss broke the previous MVC meet record of 19.40m and was 0.29m from his school record and personal-best of 20.06m. King also saw the podium for the men's weight throw, placing third with a throw of 19.80m.
Last season, King qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the shot put after recording a throw of 19.58m, breaking a facility and UNI record at the Jimmy Grant Invite hosted by the University of Iowa on Dec. 14. Before the championships were canceled last March, he had made it down to New Mexico to train for the competition. He finished the season ranked 14th in the NCAA, earning USTFCCCA All-American honors for the first time in his career.
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will run from March 11-13 and will be broadcasted on ESPN3. A re-air of the championships will be shown on March 14, starting at 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
