Panthers Set to Clash With Northern Illinois and Chicago State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI women's tennis team hits the road to face Northern Illinois and Chicago State this weekend. The Panthers will take on Mid-American Conference foe NIU at the Chick Evans Field House in DeKalb, Ill. on Friday at 6 P.M. On Saturday, the Purple and Gold will battle Western Athletic Conference contender Chicago State in Park Forest, Ill. at 3 P.M.
Last time out UNI hosted in-state rival and Missouri Valley Conference foe, Drake at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo, on Mar. 12, falling to the Bulldogs, 7-0.
Last Time Against Northern Illinois
UNI last met NIU in dual match play on Feb. 3, 2012. Hosting the Huskies in Waterloo, the Panthers posted a 6-1 win, securing the doubles point with wins from Jessica Kunzelmann/Nina Pfahler and Cassandra Dix/Stefannia Sampaio on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. In singles action Pfahler, Dix, Kunzelmann, Chelsea Moore, and Sampaio notched victories on courts No. 1-4, and court No. 6, respectively.
Scouting Northern Illinois
NIU is 8-8 (2-2 MAC), coming off a close 4-3 loss to Illinois State on Mar. 23. Prior to their evening clash against UNI, the Huskies are slated for a conference match-up against Miami (OH) at 1 P.M. Northern Illinois notched 7-0 sweeps of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Eastern Illinois, and St. Francis (Ill.). In MAC play, the Huskies defeated Eastern Michigan and Buffalo, but suffered losses to Toledo and Bowling Green.
Leading the Huskies in singles play is freshman Diana Lukyanova, who boasts a 13-3 (4-0 MAC) record, primarily from the No. 3 court. Following Lukyanova is senior Maria Potsi with a 11-4 (2-2 MAC) record on the No. 1 court. In doubles action, junior Iullia Dmitrieva/Lukyanova have a 5-3 (1-1 MAC) record and are primarily active on the No. 3 court. On the No. 1 court, Potsi/freshman Anastasia Rakita have a 4-1 (3-1 MAC) record.
Last season NIU went 12-6 (0-0 MAC), recording 7-0 sweeps of Olivet Nazarene, Doane, St. Francis (Ill.) and 4-3 edge outs over Milwaukee, Eastern Illinois, and Butler. The Huskies' longest win-streak stretched from Feb. 29 to Mar. 6 on the road, kicked off by their edge out of Butler and followed by 6-1 victories over IUPUI, Binghamton, and St. Bonaventure. NIU's season ended with a 6-1 road loss to UIC on Mar. 11.

The Panthers last faced Chicago State in dual match action on Feb. 27, 2015, in Homewood, Ill., defeating the Cougars 4-1 to capture their seventh straight win of the 2014-15 season. Erica Medlin/Elvira Lopez and Jieke Stroobant/Astrid Santos secured the doubles point for UNI on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts, respectively. Medlin, Stroobant, and Santos went on to clinch the match, posting victories on the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 singles courts.
