Panther Volleyball Picks up 5 Set Victory over Loyola

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI volleyball team defeated the Ramblers of Loyola on Sunday afternoon, winning in 5 sets with set scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-13, 21-25, 15-6. The match was the 6th five set match of the season for the Panthers.
Set 1: The Panthers moved out to an early lead in the first set, the Ramblers got within two following back-to-back service aces at 14-12 but it was the Panthers who charged ahead with a 25-13 set victory. Emily Holterhaus led the way with 9 kills and a .450 hitting percentage in the opening frame.
Set 2: The Panthers and Ramblers traded leads early in the set before the Ramblers moved out to an 8-point lead midway through the set. The Panthers fought back to tie the set 22-22 and took the lead 23-22 but the Ramblers scored 3 straight points to take the set 25-23.
Set 3: Both teams battled early in the third set. The Panthers managed to pull ahead 12-9 midway through the set. UNI ran away with the set, winning 25-13. UNI recorded 12 kills with 2 aces and 2 total blocks in the set.
Set 4: The Panthers and Ramblers had a competitive back and forth the start the fourth set. The Panthers moved out to 2 points leads multiple times but the Ramblers fought back to tie the set. UNI led 19-15 forcing a Rambler timeout. The Ramblers stormed back to lead 21-20 and won the set 25-21.
Set 5: UNI jumped out to an early 5-2 lead and moved ahead by 6 at 8-2 midway through the set. The ramblers were unable to slow down the Panther attack, with UNI winning the set 15-6 and match.
THE PANTHERS
-The Panthers hit .268 as a team with 66 kills while recording 54 assists, 61 digs and 8 total blocks.
-Emily Holterhaus finished with her 8th double-double of the season with a career high 21 kills and a .231 hitting percentage.
-Inga Rotto and Kaylissa Arndorfer added 13 kills apiece with Rotto finishing with a team high .571 hitting percentage, recording only 1 attack error on the day.
-Tayler Alden finished with 45 of the team's 54 assists while adding 8 digs, 3 blocks and 2 kills.
-UNI recorded 9 service aces on the day, with Kaylee Donner, Baylee Petersen and Kaylissa Arndorfer each recording 3 aces.
THE RAMBLERS
-The Ramblers hit .125 as a team with 41 kills, 37 assists, 49 digs and 10 total blocks.
-Sarah Murczek finished with a team high 9 kills.
-Jenna Appel recorded 18 assists while Kate Mather finished with 14 assists.
-Kelsey Watson recorded 7 block assists.

The Panthers and ramblers will meet on Monday night, the final home match of the 2021 spring season. The team will honor seniors Kate Busswitz, JJ Seehase, and Tayler Hedges following the match. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 pm and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
