Panther Volleyball Fall to Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Indiana – The UNI volleyball team took on Valparaiso for their second time in as many days on Monday afternoon, falling in straight sets 15-25, 18-25, 25-27.
Set 1: Valparaiso jumped out to a 2-0 lead and led by two throughout the early points of the set. Valpo went on a 4-0 run to move out to a 15-9 lead. The Panthers were unable to mount a run and hindered by a series of errors to fall in the first set 25-15. The Panthers recorded 10 attack errors while hitting -.049 as a team.
Set 2: Valparaiso again got out to an early lead but the Panthers responded going on a 4-0 run to lead 6-5, the first lead of the set for UNI. The Panthers led by 1 throughout the set with the Panthers taking a 15-14 lead at the media timeout. Valparaiso made a late run to take the set 25-18. The Panthers finished with 14 kills and a .237 team hitting percentage.
Set 3: After taking an early lead the Panthers were unable to hold off a 3-0 run by Valpo and trailed 6-8 early in the set. The Panthers went on their own 3-0 run to tie the set at 10-10. Neither team was able to push ahead down the stretch but it was UNI who completed a 6-0 run to tie the set at 25-25. Valparaiso won the set 27-25 with the final point coming from a solo block. UNI recorded 10 kills in the final set.
NORTHERN IOWA
-UNI recorded 32 kills and .058 hitting percentage.
-Emily Holterhaus was 1 kill shy of another double-double, finishing with 9 kills and 13 digs.
-Inga Rotto recorded 7 kills on 13 attacks with just 2 errors for a .385 hitting percentage.
-Tayler Alden finished one dig shy of a double-double with 23 assists and 9 digs.
VALPARAISO
-Valpo finished with 41 kills and a .221 team hitting percentage.
-Jillie Grant recorded a double-double with a team high 11 kills and 11 digs.
-Victoria Bulmahn recorded a double-double with 29 assists and 10 digs
-Jaclyn Bulmahn finished with 9 kills and 0 errors and a match high .409 hitting percentage.
UP NEXT
The Panthers (6-10, 6-6 MVC) now return home for their final homestand of the season on March 21 and 22 taking on Loyola in the McLeod Center. Monday will serve as the UNI senior day, honoring seniors Kate Busswitz, Taylor Hedges, and Jaydlin Seehase following the match.
