Panthers Fall in Final Duals

AMES, Iowa – Parker Keckeisen picked up a two wins and Triston Lara pinned No. 6 Jarrett Degen, but the Panthers dropped duals against No. 11 Arizona State, 24-10, and No. 13 Iowa State 23-17.

ARIZONA STATE 24, UNI 10
Brody Teske lost the first bout of the year, dropping a 5-3 hard-fought decision to No. 3 Brandon Courtney to start the bout.

Kylle Biscoglia picked up a 9-3 decision at 133 before Ethan Basile win his bout 7-6 in the first tiebreaker round to give UNI a 6-3 lead. Arizona State won at 149, 147, 165 and 174 to extend the lead to 18-6.

Keckeisen got his first win of the day, a 13-2 major decision over Cade Belshay, but Arizona State wrestlers won at 197 and 285 to close out the 14-point win.

IOWA STATE 23, UNI 17
Teske rebounded from his first dual loss in a big way. He recorded four take downs and three four-count near falls to record a 23-4 tech fall to put UNI up 5-0.

Iowa State had wins a 133 and 141, but Triston Lara put on a show at 149. After ending the first period with no score, He got a takedown and a reversal in the second before he got an escape and a takedown in the third to build a 7-3 lead. He wasn't satisfied with the decision. After his last takedown, he pushed Degen to his back worked in a half-nelson and earned the pin (5:31). The win gave UNI an 11-9 lead.

ISU regained the lead with wins at 157 and 165 to regain the lead 17-11.

Lance Runyon picked up a 10-4 win over Julien Broderson at 174. Parker Keckeisen met No. 6 Samuel Colbray at 184. With just 23 seconds remaining, Keckeisen disconnected from a grapple and hit a strong double to earn a takedown and a 4-3 lead. He rode out the final seconds to earn the win. He is now 9-0 on the year and 5-0 in dual meets.

Iowa State picked up wins at 197 and 285 to close the dual with a 23-17 win.

The Panthers close the dual season with a 4-4 record and a 3-2 in Big 12 action. All losses came against teams in the top 13 of the dual rankings.

UNI now preps for the Big 12 Championship on March 6-7 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
