Panthers Fall in Day Two of the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - UNI softball fell to the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State 8-1 in Day 2 of the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic on Feb 13.
The Panthers lone run of the game came from a Sammey Bunch homerun early in the first inning to give UNI a 1-0 lead. UNI would try to push runners across again with back to back six pitch walks from Kamaryn Shaffer and Hannah Kelley with one out. The Jackrabbits eventually got out of the jam while the Panthers left two stranded. The Panthers would only manage to have one hit the rest of the game coming from Ellie Owen in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Erica Oler started in the circle for the Panthers. The southpaw went four tough innings striking out two and walking none. Samantha Heyer would finish the game for UNI going three innings. Heyer only gave up two hits and struck out three.
At the plate, Sammey Bunch, Taylor Hogan, and Ellie Owen all recorded one hit. Sammey Bunch's solo home run was her first of the year.
