
UNI Athletics honors October student-athletes of the month

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Four Panthers were honored as UNI's student-athletes of the month for their achievements in October.
TAYLOR HOGAN
On the women's side, UNI swim and dive's Taylor Hogan finished as the Panther's top diver in the team's historic win against the University of Iowa. It was the first time in school history the Panthers topped the Hawkeyes in dual competition. She was named the Missouri Valley Conference's diver of the week for her performance. She also won the 1-meter dive against Indiana State.
CARLY SPIES
Carly Spies a middle blocker on the UNI volleyball team notched a career-high 11 blocks against Southern Illinois for UNI's best single-match total since 2013. She also reached double-digit rejections with 10 blocks along with two service aces against Loyola. In a win against Indiana State, she totaled a personal-best 15 kills on a .387 attack percentage.
On the men's side, UNI football's kicker Matthew Cook notched his longest career field goal with a 55-yard score in win over No. 6 South Dakota State. He went 4-4 on the day, with a second kick over 50 yards. He also was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference's special teams player of the week. He was perfect on field goal and point-after-attempts in the month of October.
Spencer Cuvelier, a linebacker for the UNI football team, recorded 19 tackles against South Dakota. He earned MVFC defensive player of the week honors for the second time this season after finishing with 17 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and 1 pass breakup against Youngstown State. Averaging 12 tackles per contest, he ranks second in the MVFC and third in the nation. He ranks third in Valley play with 1.5 tackles for loss per game.
