ST. LOUIS – The UNI Panther volleyball team had two individuals selected for 2021 Missouri Valley Conference postseason awards as Carly Spies was rewarded with a spot on the All-MVC Second Team while Kira Fallert was chosen for the MVC All-Freshman Team.
Spies enjoyed a breakout season at middle blocker and finished second among MVC attackers by hitting .344 within conference play. Spies, who also claimed a .299 overall attack percentage with 230 total kills, posted 111 blocks and became the first Panther since Piper Thomas in 2017 to record at least 100 rejections in a single season. She was previously recognized by the league this year as MVC Defensive Player of the Week back in August.
Fallert jumped into the starting lineup as a six-rotation outside hitter that did a little bit of everything for UNI. She led the Panthers with a .957 reception percentage on serve receive and tallied 277 digs, 251 kills, 30 service aces, and four double-doubles. Fallert, who earned MVC Freshman of the Week accolades earlier this month, is UNI's fourth All-Freshman Team honoree in three seasons (Tayler Alden, Kaylissa Arndorfer, Emily Holterhaus).
