
Panthers Find Success in Day Two Finals of Kansas Classic

CEDAR FALLS, IA - The Northern Iowa Swim Team sent another pack of Panthers on their way to the Kansas Classic day two finals.Â
The highest finish of the night came from Amber Finke placing third in the 100 back finals with a 55.18, just narrowly edging her career-best time, which is also the third-fastest time in Panther history. Helena Heuberger joined Finke in the 100 Back A Final where she recorded a new season-best (55.72) and placed seventh. Sophomore Scout Bergwall and freshman Abby McCorkle each claimed personal best swims in the 100 backstroke on the day.
Junior Natalia Verastegui competed in the 200 Freestyle A final after swimming a personal best of 1:53.11 in the prelims, a time that sits ninth in school history. Sophomore Abbie Bangs won the B final with a personal best of 1:52.17, moving to seventh all-time.Â
Following a tremendous first day of competition, including a win in the 50 freestyle, freshman Faith Larsen recorded another personal best in the 100 butterfly. Her time of 56.28 ranks fourth all-time, just behind teammate Lauren Havertape. Bergwall finished second in the C final behind Larsen, also swimming a personal best and cracking the all-time top-ten. Â
Sophomore Lily Ernst dropped four and a half-second in the 400 I.M. on the day, improving to a 4:32.33 and fifth all-time. Freshman Olivia Chambers moved into the top ten with a 4:34.69 in the finals.Â
The Panther's 200 medley relay of Finke, Havertape, McCorkle, and Larsen finished seventh among scoring teams with a 1:44.08. In the 800 freestyle relay, the team of Finke, Bangs, Verastegui, and Rachelle Houlette took fifth among scoring teams with a 7:34.14. Finke led off the relay with a 1:52.47, moving into the top-ten all-time.Â
Following day two, the Panthers sit fifth in the points race, just two points behind North Texas.Â
