UNI men's basketball falls to Vermont, 71-57

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI men's basketball wasn't able to overcome a slow start to Vermont and dropped its second game of the season, 71-57.
UNI slips to 0-2 overall. It was Vermont's season opener after winning two exhibitions.
"Vermont is highly skilled at all five positions," said head coach Ben Jacobson. "Give them a lot of credit for how they play."
Vermont holds the second longest active streak in Division I for five straight, regular-season conference titles. The Catamounts are in the America East.
AJ Green led UNI's offense with 19 points. Austin Phyfe and Noah Carter chipped in 11 points each.
UNI continues to play short-handed with a couple of players out.
"We had some good opportunities we didn't cash in on, but I like how we played offensively," said Jacobson. "I'm looking forward to having everyone back. Having our entire roster back is important to our team. We need everyone."
UNI drained 13 of 19 free throws as Vermont was called for 17 personal fouls and one technical foul. UNI shot 35.8% from the field and edged out Vermont in rebounding by one, with 35 total. Trae Berhow was UNI rebounding leader with nine.
