Panther cross country heads to regionals

Cedar Falls, Iowa-Â The Panthers head into post-season competition for the NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Championship.
The race is hosted by the University of Iowa and held at Ashton Cross Country Course Nov. 12. The women will race in a 6K slated to begin at 11 a.m. C.T., and the men will follow in a 10K race at 12 p.m. C.T. Teams that will participate will be all Division IÂ teams within the region, including teams from Iowa, Oklahoma, Illinois, Minnesota and other surrounding states.Â
The women are slated to put their best foot forward with top racer Kiki Connell. After placing 10th in the Missouri Valley Conference meet in October, her best time in the 6K remains at 21:28.8. Close behind Connell is Kate Crawford and Paige Holub. Crawford remains her best time in the 6K with a time of 22:20.0 set at the Bradley Pink Classic earlier in October. Holub raced her best in the 6K at the Missouri Valley Conference meet, moving her best time to a 22:37.4.Â
The men will race in their first 10K of the season. The men are led by seasoned veterans in the 10K with senior Sam McCool's best time of 33:44.9 set in 2019 at Oklahoma State University. Following close is Andrew Kephart and David Holesinger finishing the 10K within seconds of each other in 2019. Each runner finished at 34:37 and 34:33 respectively.
To continue to the NCAA National Championships each team must finish within the top 31 over all regions. The makeup of these 31 include the top 2 from each region, totaling 18 teams and 13 other teams that are bids at-large.Â
For individual qualifications, after teams have been established, 38 additional individuals from each gender will be chosen to race in the event that their team will not advance. More information can be found above in the 'more information" tab.Â
NCAA National Championships will be held at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida.
