Â
The Panthers:
- The UNI Panthers will close their first-ever four-contest Missouri Valley Conference road swing with their first encounter of the season with the Valparaiso Beacons.
Â
- UNI owns a 14-2 all-time advantage over Valpo but lost its two meetings in the Athletics-Recreation Center this past season.
Â
- The Panthers are coming off a reverse sweep at Drake Friday. UNI faced third-set deficits of 22-14, 23-17, and 24-23 before rallying for the incredible comeback victory.
Â
- Friday's 3-2 triumph is the only confirmed instance in program history of UNI coming within one point of being swept and later winning the match in five sets.
Â
- The Panthers have gone the distance six times in their previous 10 matches including five of the last seven tilts and both of the last two contests. Earlier in the season, UNI had each of its first 14 outings decided in either three or four frames.
Â
- In Friday's win at Drake, Tayler Alden almost posted her third collegiate triple-double. She finished with 35 assists, 11 kills, nine digs, and a career-high five blocks.
Â
- Megan Witte notched a career-high-tying 11 kills Friday in a breakout performance. She was joined in double figures by Tayler Alden (11), Kaylissa Arndorfer (11), and Carly Spies (10).
Â
- Emily Holterhaus led UNI's backcourt defense Friday by recording a personal-best 20 digs. The Panthers tallied 90 total digs as a team to set a new season high.
Â
- Olivia Tjernagel is the top Panther performer during this lengthy road swing. Tjernagel, who previously totaled just 26 kills for the season, has 23 kills compared to three errors on 52 attempts for a .385 attack percentage across her last three outings. She went 7-of-15 Friday at Drake.
- Carly Spies currently paces UNI in blocking with a personal-best 94 rejections. She is on pace to become the first Panther blocker to reach 100 rejections in a season since Piper Thomas registered 119 blocks during 2017.
- Inga Rotto (115), Kaylissa Arndorfer (81), and Emily Holterhaus (81) are on consecutive contest playing streaks to begin their college careers. Rotto is also on a 40-match blocking streak dating back to last February.
- UNI returns 13 women that were with the program for the spring season including 2020-21 All-MVC honorees Emily Holterhaus (First Team), Inga Rotto (Second Team), and Tayler Alden (Freshman Team).
- Despite the challenges of the delayed 2020 campaign, the Panthers still qualified for the MVC Championship and made it to the league semifinals. UNI has earned tournament bids and semifinal berths for a league-record 36 seasons in a row.
