UNI Women Travel to Valpo For First Road MVC Series

UNI travels to Valparaiso for the first road series of the MVC slate. It will be the first conference games for the Crusaders.Â
• UNI is coming off of a hot two-game win streak against the Illinois State Redbirds with a score of 82-71 on Jan. 1 and 72-67 on Jan, 2. Before the Redbirds played the Panthers, Illinois State was Previoulsy undefeated.
• Valparaiso last played on Dec. 20, 2020, against the University of Wisconsin Badgers and lost in an overtime battle, 89-82. Â
• Junior Guard, Shay Fredericks, led the Crusaders with 27 points for the loss against the Badgers. Grace White averages 15 PPG and attributes to the teams shot value of 40.40% from the field and 30.96% from behind the arc.
• UNI and Southern Illinois are the only two teams in the conference that won both games leaving them tied for first place in the conference at 2-0. Indiana State, Bradley, Loyola and Drake all split their first conference matchups leaving them 1-1, while Illinois State and Evansville record two losses to start the year.Â
• Bre Gunnels was awarded MVC's Player of the week after a stellar week in the sweep of Illinois State. She tied her career-high with 18 points on New Year's Day and recorded the second double-double of the season and the fourth for her career on Jan. 2 with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
• UNI is ranked 22nd in three-pointers attempted and 28th for three-pointers made in the NCAA. Bre Gunnels is ranked 33rd in the NCAA for free throws attempted and 28th for free throws made.Â
• Karli Rucker secured the No. 15 spot on the All-Time Scoring List after scoring a combined total of 34 points in both games against Illinois State. She now has 1,143 career points and is trailing Alex Cook who has 1,180 points.Â
• Megan Maahs is tied with Deb Drenth (1979-1983) for the No. 3 spot on the All-Time Rebounding List with 758 rebounds.Â
• Rucker still leads UNI with 12.6 PPG, Maahs is second with 10.6 PPG and Gunnels and Finley are tied with 9.6 PPG.
• UNI is now 5-4 for the season with wins over Creighton, Wichita State, South Dakota State and Illinois State. The losses came against Iowa, Iowa State, South Dakota St. and North Dakota State. UNI is tied with Southern Illinois for wins in the Missouri Valey Conference, both teams are 2-0.Â
• The Panthers are ranked 22nd in the Mid-Major Poll. They moved up two spots after the weekend sweep of previously unbeaten Illinois State.
