UNI Wrestling Meets MIZZOU, ASU

The No. 20 UNI Wrestling team travels to Ames for neutral-site duals against No. 9 MIZZOU and No. 11 Arizona State.  The two teams are a combined 7-0 on the year in duals. ASU is ranked 11th in the NWCA Poll and MIZZOU is ranked 9th. Both duals will be streamed online on Youtube and Jeff Bradley will provide commentary.
• Ten Panthers are ranked in various polls, Jack Skudlarczyk and Carter Isley are ranked in every poll. Brody Teske, jumped into three rankings with his impressive 2-0 start. Triston Lara, Keegan Moore and Pat Schoenfelder debuted in the track wrestling rankings and Lance Runyon debuted in the Open Mat rankings.Â
• Mizzou brings nine ranked wrestlers into Sunday's dual. Brock Mauller is the headliner with a No. 3 ranking and a 5-0 ranking at 149. The best bout of the dual may come at 285 where No. 10 Carter Isley meets No. 8 Zach Elam who is 4-1 on the year. Missouri is 5-0 on the year with a 30-6 win over No. 21 Central Michigan. They haven't allowed a team to score double digits this season. Their wrestlers are a combined 38-5.Â
• Arizona State has only two duals under their belts, winning 39-3 at Little Rock before toppint No. 20 Oklahoma 20-12 in Norman. Six wrestlers are ranked in the top 11. Brandon Courtney is No. 5 at 125 and Anthony Valencia is No. 5 at 165. The dual will include another top-15 heavyweight bout. No. 10 Isley faced No. 11 Cohlton Schultz. Â
• The Panthers went 2-0 on the open weekend with routs of SDSU and NDSU. Five Panthers earned pins in the duals. Triston Lara's headlock-to-pin against SDSU's Hunter Marko earned the NCAA National Moment of the Week on its social media outlets.Carter Isley topped No. 15 Brandon Metz in just 41 seconds in the only bout between ranked opponents. Kyle Biscoglia upset No. 13 Zach Price from SDSU  with a pin in the opening bout at 133.Â
•Three wrestlers in the lineup have qualified for nationals, but only transfer Keegan Moore has actually wrestled in the NCAA Championships. Jack Skudlarczyk and Carter Isley both qualified for the 2020 NCAA Championships before it was canceled.Â
• As many as nine wrestlers will be in the lineup for the first season for the Panthers. UNI saw six wrestlers graduate, including four national qualifiers. National qualifier Michael Blockhus transferred during the offseason.Â
• Four wrestlers from Fort Dodge High School started for the Panthers last weekend. Brody Teske (125), Drew Bennett (141), Triston Lara (149) and Cayd Lara (157) are all in the lineup for UNI. It is believed that it is the first time that four wrestlers from the same high school were in the same lineup since 1949 when four Waterloo West wrestlers lined up for Cornell College.
• The Panthers host Oklahoma on Jan. 24 in the first home dual of the season. Iowa State will travel to Cedar Falls to face the Sooners at 1 p.m. before the Panthers and OU wrestle at 3 p.m.
•UNI will only leave the state of Iowa twice for road duals. Last week's duals in South Dakota and Feb. 5 in a dual against Northern Illinois.
