Giving Tuesday Boosts UNI Initiative

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI supporters stepped up in a big way to support UNI Athletics as part of the 2020 Giving Tuesday effort. Between Dec. 1-20, donors contributed $95,000 to the UNI Fight Initiative.
"I am continually overwhelmed with the generosity of our Panther family," Director of Athletics David Harris said. "Our Giving Tuesday campaign showed another outpouring of support. I am grateful to the three donors that made matching pledges and everyone that contributed to this campaign to help us surpass our goal for the Campaign. The UNI Fight Initiative is vital for our department to navigate the impact of COVID-19 without changes that will adversely impact our student-athletes."
The outcome of the Giving Tuesday campaign and gifts to date pushes the UNI Fight Initiative to approach $645,000 in total contributions.
The Initiative will continue through June 30, 2021. The UNI Fight Initiative was established to help meet the $2.8 million deficit from lost revenue and increased cost of the pandemic. The money raised will directly support UNI Athletics operating costs to support over 400 student-athletes.
UNI Athletics has already reduced salaries and operating costs and paused all contract incentives and bonuses. However, reductions alone will not reach the lost revenue and pandemic expenditures.
