Panther Pro Report Week Two: Fountain Called Up
9/17/2020 8:44:00 PM | Football
David Johnson scored the first touchdown of the NFL season and L.J. Fort had a stellar outing against the Browns in week one, while Xavier Williams was a last-minute call-up. The Panthers also started week two with good news when Daurice Fountain was elevated to the active roster Wednesday to highlight this week's Pro Panther Report.
WEEK ONE
David Johnson – 11 carries, 77 yards, 1 TD, 3 rec., 32 yards
The first play from scrimmage of the 2020 season was a five-yard run for Johnson. The first touchdown, you guessed it, a 19-yard scamper by DJ that saw him cut and run like he did in 2016. The Texans fell behind early, limiting Johnson's carries, but seven-yards a carry is going to go far in an NFL season. He also added three catches for 32 yards, including a 15-yarder.

L.J. Fort – 6 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 FF, 1 FR
Fort entered the week with the top spot on the depth chart, but the Raven started Malik Harrison over him. Despite not having the starting spot, he was second on the team in total tackles and led the Ravens with six solo stops. He had a tackle for loss and blew up a fake punt attempt by the Browns, forcing a fumble. He closed his day with a fumble recovery for a productive day on the road in Cleveland. Pro Football Focus ranked LJ as the third-highest ranked linebacker in the NFL for week 1.
Xavier Williams – 2 tackles
Williams was called up off of the New England practice squad Saturday evening and picked up a pair of tackles Sunday against Miami, including a solo stop in limited action for the Patriots. After the game, he was reverted to the practice squad. Under COVID-19 NFL rules, he can be elevated one more time and reverted to the practice squad without being exposed to waivers.
UP NEXT
We will likely see some Panther-on-Panther action in week two. The Texans and Ravens face off in Baltimore. It will be a key matchup of two potential playoff teams. The Texans look to rebound after dropping the season-opener to the Super Bowl champions. The Ravens face a much steeper challenge than their week-one opponent. The game is set to start for 3:25 p.m. Sunday on CBS.
The Patriots travel to Seattle for a game against the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football 7:20 on NBC.
FOUNTAIN CALLED UP FOR COLTS
Daurice Fountain's stint on the practice squad didn't last long. After one week, he was elevated to the active roster. The wide receiver group for the Colts is large with seven receivers on the active roster, but Panther fans know what he can do if given the opportunity. Fountain comes off of a season on the injured reserve. He had a stellar camp but suffered a devastating injury at the end of camp, which ended his year. The Colts host Minnesota in Indianapolis, the game kicks off at 1 p.m.
