CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The fifth-annual Run4UNI will move to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UNI Athletics announced today. The virtual event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17, the original date of UNI's homecoming. All proceeds will benefit the UNI Athletics Department.
Participants will have all day on Saturday, Oct. 17 to complete the 4-mile race on their own and share their time. Fans can do the race inside their home on the treadmill or outside by walking, jogging, or running the distance on their own route.
"Run4UNI has become a popular event and something that many of our fans look forward to every year," Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs Nathan Christensen said. "We are disappointed that we won't be able to see everyone cross the finish line in the dome this year, but we are excited to see participants from all areas of Panther Nation have the opportunity to participate."
The first participant from each state and the furthest participant from Cedar Falls to register will win special prizes including signed memorabilia by UNI Head Coaches, Nike Panther Gear, UNI Panther license plate covers, Panther t-shirts and more.
All who participate are encouraged to print out the free race bib. Take a picture pre/post-run, share it on social media using the hashtag #Run4UNI and tagging @UNIAthletics. UNI Athletics will share photos of finishers throughout the day of the race.Â
Registration for the Virtual Run4UNI is open until Thursday, Oct. 15 by clicking here. Registration is $40 and includes an official high-performance race t-shirt, print-at-home racer's bib, and a finisher's certificate. A second registration option is available for $25, which includes a print-at-home racer's bib and finisher's certificate.Â
Throughout Saturday, October 17th our main social media account will be sharing posts of our participants supporting Panther Athletics.Â
