ST. LOUIS – Sixteen Panthers were named President's Council Award Recipients, the highest academic achievement given by the Missouri Valley Conference, the league announced Wednesday.
Ninety-three Panthers were named to the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and 165 UNI student-athletes were named to the MVC Honor Roll.
The Presidents' Council Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.8 cumulative grade point average, participation in athletics a minimum of two years, and the student-athlete must be within 18 hours of graduation (by the end of the Spring 2020 semester). The league's Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for each of the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average, and participation in athletics a minimum of two years.
To qualify for the Valley Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have recorded a minimum 3.2 grade-point average for a specified term (Fall 2019/Spring 2020), must have been a member of an athletics team, and must have been enrolled full time during the term they earned the honor.
UNI student-athletes recorded a department-wide 3.54 GPA in the 2020 spring semester, the strongest academic showing since the department started recording GPAs. Each team finished the semester with a 3.29 GPA or higher and 11 of UNI's 15 teams recorded a semester GPA over 3.50.
