CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI Athletics and the Panther Scholarship Club generated over $132,000 for the 2020 Rally in the Valley at Home presented by Cedar Valley Dental Associates, which was held as a virtual event because of the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.
"We are excited about the outcome of the Rally in the Valley at Home," Director of Athletics David Harris said. "We understand the financial impact that the pandemic has had on our society and we are grateful for our Panther family that sacrificed to help our student-athletes. Thank you to those who purchased items, those who donated through the event and our Panther Scholarship Club staff for their hard work transforming this event to an online format."
The numbers include $107,680 in revenue from the silent auction. Which is an increase of 78% from the 2019 Rally in the Valley silent auction. There were also 65% more registrants for the auction on the Handbid app than last year's auction. The Panther Scholarship Club had an overwhelming response from those that already pre-registered for the event, in which they donated the funds back to the Rally in the Valley Scholarship Fund, which benefits student-athlete scholarships.
"UNI Athletics is lucky to have such amazing donors and supporters," Associate Director of Athletics Nathan Christensen said. "It was inspiring to see so many Panthers from all over the country come together and celebrate our student-athletes. With everything going on in the world today, Rally in the Valley at Home was a very successful virtual event and made an impact on our department."
UNI Athletics plans to make an announcement on the date for the 2021 Rally in the Valley which will be held in the McLeod Center.
