
UNI Athletics Records Best Academic Semester in Program History

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI student-athletes recorded a department-wide 3.54 GPA, the strongest academic showing since the department started recording GPAs. Each team finished the semester with a 3.29 GPA or higher and 11 of UNI's 15 teams recorded a semester GPA over 3.50.
Women's swimming and diving led the way with a 3.82 team GPA for the spring, bringing their overall cumulative GPA to 3.66.
UNI women's cross country was second with a 3.81 team GPA and women's tennis tallied a 3.79 mark for the semester.
UNI men's golf recorded the highest GPA among men's teams with a 3.63 semester GPA.
Student-athletes as a whole have recorded a higher GPA than the general student body for 21 consecutive semesters. The overall cumulative GPA now sits at a 3.27. The overall semester GPA of 3.54 exceeded the goal of 3.2 listed as a metric in UNI Athletics strategic plan, Panthers Rising.
"I am incredibly excited by the performance of our student-athletes during a semester that was unlike anything any of them have ever experienced," Director of Athletics David Harris said. "Our student-athletes, coaches and academic support staff showed great resilience and adapted to the circumstances they were presented with at a blistering pace. They not only met the challenge, they exceeded all of our expectations. We are all appreciative of the fantastic work done by Stacia Eggers, Andrea Greve-Coello and Jadyn Spencer in providing academic support to our student-athletes under these unprecedented conditions."
Over 83% of student-athletes recorded a 3.0 or higher semester GPA and 63% recorded a GPA higher than 3.5. All 15 UNI teams now exceed a 3.0 cumulative GPA and seven teams have a team cumulative GPA higher than 3.5.
