UNI Women Play at Wichita State, Sunday

UNI women's basketball travels to Wichita to take on the former Missouri Valley Shockers, Sunday. The Panthers look to rebound from an 85-68 loss to NDSU. Wichita State is 3-0 on the season with wins over Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Alcorn and Southern. Â
• This is the 76th meeting between the former MVC rivals. The Panthers lead the series 40-35 and have won five straight against the Shockers, including a 61-50 win in Nov. 2019 in Wichita.  Â
• UNI fell to North Dakota State in Fargo, Wednesday night. The Panthers struggled to find consistent offense, shooting just 37.1% (23-62) from the field while allowing the Bison to hit 30-57 (52.6%) on the day.Â
• The Panthers return their top five leading scorers and four of five starters off of last year's team. Karli Rucker led the way with 13.7 points per game, Kam Finley was second with 9.9 PPG, Megan Maahs third with 9.2 PPG, Bre Gunnels fourth with 7.0 PPG and Nicole Kroeger fifth with 6.7 PPG. In total, UNI returns 1,469 of 2,007 total points (73.2%).
• Wichita State guard Mariah McCully comes into the season with All-AAC Preseason second-team accolades. Asia Strong leads the Shockers with 15.33 points per game. Three other players averae double figures.Â
• Last season, UNI closed non-conference play with the most non-conference wins in school history (8), three wins over Power-Five Schools and an undefeated home record. The Panthers defeated No. 20 Iowa 88-66, Missouri 78-73 and Iowa State 71-63.Â
• After two games, UNI is ranked 22ndth in the NCAA in three-pointers attempted (75) and 17th for three-pointers made (25). Cynthia Wolf is currently ranked 18th in the nation for blocked shots and the Panthers are 19th in NCAA for team blocked shots.Â
• The updated Missouri Valley Conference schedule was released Friday. The Panthers open the conference schedule with two home games against Missouri State on Jan. 1-2. UNI hosts MSU, Illinois State, Evansville and Loyola in the McLoed Center and plays a home-and-home series with Drake.
• Karli Rucker moved to 18th on the UNI All-Time scoring list. She passed Cassie Hagar and now has 1,065 career points. She is now 17 points away from Jen Keitel for the 17th all-time spot on the list.
• Megan Maahs is seventh all-time for rebounding with 734. She is 9 back from Erin Brocka for 6th. If she returns to her sophomore pace (322 rebounds), she can challenge record holder Alex Cook for the top spot in the record book.
