CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Soifer Family McDonald's will donate $32,626 to the UNI Athletics UNI Fight Initiative, which was their entire sales for the three Cedar Falls stores on Nov. 10.
"We are happy to be able to support UNI Athletics in these unprecedented times and are thrilled with the number of fans who came out to support the Panthers," Owner and President Scott Soifer said. "Our family, employees and I had a lot of fun supporting this cause, and we look forward to seeing the Panthers back in competition."
The UNI Fight Initiative was established to help meet the $2.8 million deficit from lost revenue and increased cost of the pandemic. The money raised will directly support UNI Athletics operating costs to support over 400 student-athletes. The donation from Soifer Family McDonald's raises the UNI Fight Initiative total to over the $555,000 mark of commitments to date.
"Thank you to the Soifer family. We are indebted to the Soifers, their employees and everyone who purchased food last Tuesday in support of UNI Athletics," Director of Athletics David Harris said. "I've said that overcoming the pandemic will be one of the most difficult things that we will ever have to tackle as a Panther family, and while that remains true, this event is more evidence that together we can make it through these unprecedented times and continue our mission of supporting our student-athletes."
