UNI Softball Hosts Hit-A-Thon Thursday

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI Softball hosts its annual hit-a-thon Thursday at 5:30 p.m. the event will be streamed live on Youtube. Fans are welcome to attend but are encouraged to wear masks and social distance.
The event is a fundraiser for UNI softball where softball student-athletes receive pledges for the distance that they hit the ball. Each player takes 10 swings and the longest hit counts for their pledges. If a ball is hit 250 feet and a donor pledges $1 a foot, then the donation would be $250.
"I am excited about the job our team has done going out and finding people to support our program," head coach Ryan Jacobs said. "We have passionate fans of Panther softball and we hope that they enjoy this event whether in person or by watching online."
This years' event will be streamed live with the help of UNI's Media Services. There will be multiple cameras and players and coaches will be mic'd up. Around the Corner's Brad Wells will serve as the emcee for the event.
"I think the ability to have UNI Media Services help us out this year and still allow our fans that can't make it out to the park the ability to participate in the event is huge for us," Jacobs said. "We are excited to spice up the event a little bit and do some different things and to have Brad on the mic will be fun. His softball knowledge is extensive and I know he is excited to get to know our incoming freshmen."
If fans haven't yet had the chance to donate and would like to participate, contact coach Jacobs via email at ryan.jacobs@uni.edu and you will be matched with a player.
The event will be live-streamed here.
