CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Soifer Family, owners of 12 McDonald's restaurants in the Cedar Valley, will donate 100% of sales of from the three Cedar Falls stores on Tuesday, Nov. 10 to the UNI Fight Initiative.
The initiative supports UNI's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising costs and lost revenue that has setback the department $2.8 million to date.
"The generosity of the Soifer Family is remarkable," UNI Director of Athletics David Harris said. "Their support across the UNI campus and the Cedar Valley has impacted so many individuals and we are grateful to be the beneficiaries of their latest act of kindness. This event will go a long way to helping us bridge the gap that the pandemic has created and help us remain focus on our goal of supporting our student-athletes."
The event creates an opportunity for UNI fans to support the initiative just by making a purchase at McDonald's. For every Big Mac, Happy Meal, Coca Cola or anything else purchased, the money will go towards UNI Athletics.
The three Cedar Falls restaurants that are participating in the event are located at 2515 Main Street, 610 W 1st Street and at 326 Brandilynn Boulevard.
Customers can participate in contests on social media throughout the day to win McDonald's and UNI Prize packs.
"We are excited to be able to support the Panthers in this time of unprecedented financial difficulties," President and Owner Scott Soifer said. "The Cedar Valley has been great to our family and our business, and we are grateful for this opportunity to give back to our community."
Soifer and his wife Lisa are both 2003 graduates of UNI. They are members of the Panther Scholarship Club, Scott serves on the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, and Lisa serves on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the GBPAC.
Fans that contribute directly to the initiative will receive triple priority Panther Points for their one-time donation and all gifts are tax-deductible.
