UNI Track and Field Competes at Black and Gold Invite

UNI Track & Field heads to Iowa City, Iowa to compete in the Black and Gold Invite Jan. 31 - Feb. 1. The teams competing at the Black and Gold Invite include Barton College, Bradley, Drake, Eastern Illinois, Iowa Wester, Loyola, Marquette, Minnesota State, Iowa, and Tulsa.
The meet begins on Friday at 1 p.m. with weight throw and continues on Saturday at 11 a.m. with shot put. Running events begin at 2:35 p.m.

BREAKOUT WEEKEND
True freshman, Thai Thompson had a record performance at the Jack Jennett Open. In his first pentathon, he placed second overall. He placed top-three in each individual event, except one. He recorded personal bests in 60 meter dash, 1000 meter run, shot put, high jump, 60 meter hurdles, and pole vault. He shattered his old high jump personal best by six inches.
UNI sprinters dominated the weekend, starting off with a close 60 meter dash final between Isaiah Trousil and Tayshaun Cooper. Trousil edged Cooper by just a 2/1,000s of a second to earn first place. They both moved up the ranks in the MVC to second place. In the women's 60 meter dash final, four panthers earned the top four spots. Rylan Santi led the group with a time of 7.68 follwed by Taylor Raines, Emily Paul, and Jill Bennett. Raines also holds the top spot in the MVC for the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.31.
The shot put squad has performed as an absolute unit, consistently leading the MVC in four of the top five rankings. Darius King leads the group with a distance of 19.58m (ranked 7th in NCAA) followed by Keegan Tritle, Kyler Yodts, and William Blaser. Yodts and King also take two of the top 3 spots for weight throw.
Jack Sumners jumped up the MVC and NCAA rankings in the long jump with a personal best distance of 7.46m. He is currently ranked 2nd in the MVC and 39th in the NCAA.
Seb Gearhart moved up the rankings to 2nd in the MVC in the 800 meter run after a highly competitive race at the Cyclone Open with a time of 1:53.24.
