Panthers Open Season at Drake Tournament

DES MOINES, IOWA – UNI Women's Tennis finished day one of the Drake Invitation with four athletes advancing to the quarterfinals.
In singles Flight B, Emma Carr defeated Augustana's Emily Granson 6-2 6-4, and Thasissa Moreira defeated Drake's Maria Tatarnikova 6-4 6-0 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.
In Flight C, Valentina Caro picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win over Augustana's Grace Goble and Madeline Doherty defeated Omaha's Savanna Crowell 7-5, 6-1. All four winners will compete Saturday at 10 a.m.
In doubles action, Harri Proudfoot and Valentina Caro won their first match in flight A against a South Dakota team 8-4 before falling to a Wichita State team in the second round, 8-3.
Kim Zizek and Emma Carr are alive in the consolation bracket of the A doubles flight, and Madeline Doherty and Olivia Fain are alive in the consolation bracket of the B doubles flight.
Doubles action resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday while singles action begins at 10 a.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
