King Competes at the NCAA Championship Wednesday

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI shot putter Darius King competes Wednesday evening at 6:40 p.m. CT in the NCAA Track and Field Championship in Austin Texas.
King earned a trip to nationals after finishing eighth in the shot put at the NCAA West Preliminaries in Sacramento, California, on May 25.
His throw in the prelims (63-feet-4.75) was just inches from the UNI school record and a personal best by nearly three feet.
The top 12 throwers from both the East and West Prelims compete for the title Wednesday. King enters the event ranked 19th of the 24 competitors, but just over a foot separates the next 10 throwers in the standings.
King is the first thrower of the first flight. There are two flights and the top nine throwers advancing to the final.
The meet is being streamed on ESPN3.
