Sammey Bunch Named NFCA Second Team All-Region

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced that 392 student-athletes from 163 programs have received 2019 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. UNI's junior short stop Sammey Bunch has been named a Second Team All-Midwest Region selection.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for the 2019 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
Bunch, the 2019 MVC Player of the Year, led the conference in slugging percentage (.822), runs scored (51), home runs (17) and total bases (151). A 2017 third team selection by the NFCA, Bunch broke the UNI single season home run record and slugging percentage.
Eighteen MVC student athletes made NFCA All-Region teams with six landing on the first, five landing on the second team and seven landing on the third team. Southern Illinois, Ohio State and Louisiana Tech topped the Mideast Region with five honors. All three of those programs had three first teamers.
The Southeastern Conference paced all leagues with 40 honorees, while the Pac-12 and Big 10 were right on its heels with 38 and 37, respectively. Conference players and pitchers of the year from member institutions are added to the third team if they were not already voted to an All-Region squad.
